History and Background

Commecs College was established in 1993 under the auspices of the Commecs Educational Trust (CET), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1988 by COMMECS, the alumni association of the Government College of Commerce & Economics. Since its inception, the College has embodied the vision of its founders to promote quality education and institutional excellence. The trustees were concerned at the dearth of good educational institutions in the fields of business, science and technology. As its first step, CET established the Commecs Institute of Business Education (CIBE) in 1993 (Now known as “Commecs College”). Three programmes were offered:

The educational standards were set to conform to the vision of the founders. Encouraged and motivated by the initial success, CET launched the science discipline in the year 2003 and changed the name of the institute to Commecs Institute of Business and Emerging Sciences (CIBES).

In May 2007, CIBES received a charter from Government of Sindh and recognition from Higher Education Commission (HEC) as a Degree Awarding Institute and started its own BBA and MBA degree programmes, at 40-B PECHS. With this status IBA-affiliated programmes were discontinued.

Commecs College at present is running an Intermediate Programme in affiliation with the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), offering the disciplines of:

  • Commerce
  • Pre-Engineering
  • Pre-Medical
  • Computer Science
  • Humanities

Associate Dean – Skills Development

Welcome to Commecs College — a place where learning meets transformation.

I am Engr. Dr. Yousuf Hemani, a STEM researcher and educator with a doctorate in experimental laser science from University of Zurich, Switzerland. With experience across science, innovation, and teaching, I’ve come to believe that education must not only inform — it must empower.

At Commecs College, I see every student not just as a learner, but as a future innovator, leader, and change-maker. We are committed to nurturing not only academic excellence, but also the real-world skills and mindsets that define success in the 21st century – especially in the STEM fields that continue to shape our future.

We believe in preparing students not just for exams, but for life beyond the classroom – for the world of ideas, technology, challenges, and change. Whether your aspirations lie in engineering, medicine, entrepreneurship, design, or the creative arts, our aim is to help you discover your strengths, sharpen your abilities, and chart a path toward meaningful impact.

Our Skills Development Program is built on one core belief: that every student has the potential to create, lead, and contribute – if given the right tools. You’ll find opportunities to explore coding, communication, marketing, research, entrepreneurship, and collaboration, all under the guidance of dedicated mentors, real-world partnerships, and a vibrant student community. This program is here to help you gain practical skills, unlock your confidence, and take bold steps toward your future.

We believe in nurturing individuality — empowering you to discover your voice, whether in science or storytelling, in logic or leadership. Because your journey matters, and your ideas can shape the world.

I strongly believe curiosity breeds innovation – but only if we fight the forces of stagnancy and entropy. That means choosing growth over comfort, discipline over distraction and purpose over passivity.

So challenge yourself. Build something new. Ask the harder question. Show up every day with the intent to become not just a student – but a skilled, thinking, and principled individual.

Pakistan’s future depends on young minds like yours. Let’s rise to that challenge – together – with clarity, discipline, and imagination.
